Description

Hyalgan, a viscous solution with a pH range of 6.8 to 7.5, is made up of a high molecular weight (500,000–730,000 daltons) fraction of buffered physiological sodium chloride and purified natural sodium hyaluronate.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar of the glycosaminoglycan family and is a long-chain polymer having repeating disaccharide units of Na-glucuronate-N-acetylglucosamine.

How to use Hyalgan IT 

  1. To give Hyalgan, an intra-articular injection is used.
  2. Five injections are administered at weekly intervals as part of a therapy cycle. With three injections administered at weekly intervals, some individuals might also benefit.
  3. Do not use Hyalgan if the package is opened or damaged.
  4. Store in the original packaging (protected from light) below 77° F (25°)
  5. Do not freeze

Common side effects of Hyalgan include:

  • injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness, warmth, bruising, stiffness, or puffiness)
  • headache
  • nausea
  • stomach pain
  • back pain
  • numbness or tingly feeling
  • cold symptoms
  • tired feeling
  • itching or skin irritation around the knee
  • however, more severe side effects may also occur, including:
  • severe headache
  • fast or pounding heartbeat
  • fever
