Description
EMLA is a topical cream used to numb the skin before medical procedures such as injections, blood draws, and minor skin surgeries. It is composed of two local anesthetics, lidocaine and prilocaine, which work together to provide pain relief by blocking nerve impulses in the skin.
Composition:
EMLA cream contains two active ingredients, lidocaine 2.5% (25mg/ml) and prilocaine 2.5% (25mg/ml), as well as other inactive ingredients including polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, carbomer 974P, sodium hydroxide, and purified water.
Side effects:
The most common side effects of EMLA include skin reactions at the site of application, such as redness, swelling, and itching. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own within a few hours. In rare cases, EMLA may cause a severe allergic reaction, which can cause difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, and hives.
Packaging:
EMLA is available in a 5-30g aluminum tube.
