Description
MIRENA® is a small, T-shaped intrauterine device (IUD) that releases a low dose of the hormone levonorgestrel over a period of up to 5 years. It is inserted into the uterus and provides effective contraception.
Composition:
MIRENA® contains 52mg of the synthetic progestin hormone levonorgestrel. The IUD itself is made of a soft, flexible plastic.
Side effects:
Common side effects of MIRENA® include irregular bleeding or spotting, changes in menstrual periods, headache, nausea, and breast tenderness. Serious side effects, while rare, can include infection, perforation of the uterus, and ectopic pregnancy.
Packaging:
MIRENA® is packaged as a single, sterile device in a sealed plastic wrapper.
