• Formulation components: acetate, calcium, polysorbate 20, and sucrose in Water for Injection, USP, with sodium hydroxide to pH 5.2.

How it fits into clinic protocols

Evenity is indicated for postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk of fracture — either a history of osteoporotic fracture, multiple risk factors, or failure/intolerance of other osteoporosis therapies. A full monthly dose requires two 105 mg prefilled syringes (210 mg total), given as two consecutive subcutaneous injections. Treatment is limited to 12 monthly doses; because the anabolic effect wanes after 12 months, continued anti-resorptive therapy should be considered once the course is complete.

Boxed warning: Evenity carries an FDA boxed warning for increased risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death. It should not be initiated in patients who have had an MI or stroke within the preceding year. Clinics should review the full prescribing information and screen patients for cardiovascular risk before initiating therapy.
